Call for proposals for small grants for media programs with a total value of $140,000 has been launched

The Embassy of the United States in Kazakhstan  has issued a call for grant applications to implement projects that will bolster Kazakhstan’s media market. Projects are directed to improve professional journalism standards, implement innovative approaches in gathering and sharing accurate news, and support the development of peer-to-peer interactions.

 

The purpose of the program:

Promote journalistic professionalism and diminishing the negative impact of disinformation in Kazakhstani media.

 

The projects provided should correspond to the following priority themes::

Theme 1: Countering fake news and disinformation.

Theme 2: Promoting professional journalism standards, particularly fact checking,

verification, investigative journalism, and fact-based reporting, especially in the regions

outside Nur-Sultan and Almaty.

Theme 3: Promoting innovative approaches for gathering or sharing news, particularly

with younger audiences.

Theme 4: Supporting the development of peer-to-peer exchanges or grassroots networks

of professionals for higher quality reporting, ethical and objective journalism.

 

The project is organized to attract journalists, bloggers, media, media professionals and editors. Projects aimed at the Kazakh-speaking audience in remote regions of Kazakhstan are encouraged.

 

The budget of a project can be up to 40,000 US dollars.

 

Eligibility:

Following organization are eligible to apply a proposal:

  • Not-for-profit organizations registered in Kazakhstan
  • For-profit organizations registered in Kazakhstan
  • Civil society/non-governmental organizations registered in Kazakhstan
