The call for grant applications within the Spotlight Initiative regional programme for Central Asia «Alliances for Change – Elimination of All Forms of Violence and Harmful Practices Against Women and Girls in Central Asia» by the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan is now open for non-governmental and non-commercial organizations.
The programme promotes a society with zero tolerance for gender-based violence and is expected to benefit more than 35 million women and girls in Central Asia.
Aim of the grant:
To identify and support organizations working with the law enforcement system to strengthen response to violence against women and girls (VAW/G) for:
● Improved prevention of VAW/G through changes in law enforcement practices and attitudes;
● Increased effectiveness of laws, policies and accountability systems to prevent and end VAW/G.
● Improved access of women and girls to essential, specialized, safe and appropriate multi-sectoral services.
Grant themes:
1. Gender sensitization and training of law enforcement officers, judges, other court personnel, prosecutors and lawyers for effective gender violence response;
2. Improving responses to crimes against women through specialized policies and services;
3. Expanding programs for disabled victims of various forms of violence;
4. Enhancing legal aid and victim services for various forms of violence;
5. Developing and promoting national and/or local legislation and policies for addressing multiple forms of violence;
6. Developing coordinated community responses to sexual and domestic violence, such as (SDV) response teams, or other similar mechanisms;
7. Developing programmes for law enforcement officers, judges, other court personnel, and prosecutors on gender equality and non-discrimination in the workplace.
Total Amount Available:
The maximum amount of one grant is the equivalent of $15000.
Eligibility:
– These are eligible to apply proposals: non-profit organizations, including non-governmental and charitable organizations, research and training centers, professional associations, foundations, etc. in Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan;
– Applicants should operate in the field of providing services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, protecting the rights and interests of victims of violence, interacting with government agencies on the development of policies for gender equality, countering violence, eliminating harmful practices against women and girls, improving statistics on violence against women.
– When submitting the grant application, an organization should have at least 3 years of experience and have financial and human resources to implement projects in the thematic areas of the Grants Competition.
